The City of Kalamunda is a local government area in the eastern metropolitan region of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about 25 kilometres (15.5 mi) east of Perth's central business district. The city covers an area of 324.2 square kilometres (125.2 sq mi), much of which is state forest rising into the Darling Scarp to the east. According to the 2016 Census, the city recorded a population of 57,449 people.

The Darling Range Road District was gazetted in 1897. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire of Kalamunda after the enactment of the Local Government Act 1960. The Shire of Kalamunda commenced community consultation on whether to become a city in 2015, and was renamed the City of Kalamunda on 1 July 2017.

A recent research found that the speakers of the Northern Thai language (or Kham Mueang) have become so few, as most people in northern Thailand now invariably speak standard Thai, such that they are now using mostly central Thai words and seasoning their speech only with "kham mueang" accent.
Standard Thai is based on the Ayutthaya dialect, and the register in the educated classes. In addition to Central Thai, Thailand is home to other related Tai languages. Although some linguists classify these dialects as related but distinct languages, there is a high degree of mutual intelligibility between these regional dialects/languages. Nonetheless, it is often claimed that the language policy of the Thai government[citation needed] has shaped the dominant view that these languages are only regional variants or dialects of the "same" Thai language, or as "different kinds of Thai".
