    About the Nepali Language

Nepali, the official language of Nepal, is spoken by over 17 million people as their first language in Nepal, with an additional 8 million speakers across India, Bhutan, and Burma. It belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family, sharing roots with Hindi and Bengali. Nepali has a rich linguistic heritage, influenced by Sanskrit, and is written in the Devanagari script. The language has a relatively high literacy rate of around 70%, reflecting the importance placed on education in Nepal. Additionally, Nepali is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India, recognized under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, with significant Nepali-speaking communities in the Indian states of Sikkim and West Bengal.
